Our Story
We were motivated by the Senate Bill (CA-SB895) signed by the governor September 22, 2018, which unfortunately did not encompass all Lao ethnic groups in the California curriculum. In response of this, we launched a statewide petition advocating for the inclusion of Laotian American history and culture across all ethnic groups in the curriculum for statewide teaching (AB1393). Although the bill received bipartisan support, it was vetoed by Governor Newsom on October 12, 2019. In 2021, it was re-introduced but has since been sent back to the Instructional Quality Commission.
